5.0 out of 5 stars Works great in my basement, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Soleus Air DP1-70-03, 70 Pint Portable Energy Star Dehumidifier, White (Kitchen)
My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting. The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product.

Got this unit for a great price from stacks and stacks! Great delivery time, well packaged for shipping. Unit works great so far, noise is not too bad, but it is a 70 pint, going to be louder than smaller units, as expected. I am running this in my utility room of an otherwise finished basement, so I am usually not in the same room with it trying to watch TV or listen to music.
I always seem to over-research things like this before buying, glad I did this time, perfectly happy with this unit and would definitely recommend the product and the seller!

5.0 out of 5 stars WORKS! Really, really, really well!, January 12, 2009
This review is from: Soleus Air DP1-70-03, 70 Pint Portable Energy Star Dehumidifier, White (Kitchen)
I bought the dehumidifier about a month ago, and have been using it in my incredibly humid bedroom. It removes a LOT of moisture in the air up there. The space is about 400 sq feet, and there is no more condensation on any of the windows, not even the ones all the way across the room from it.

I don't recommend running it at night though, as it will dehumidify YOU! It's also a bit noisy and blows cold air. But it has really helped a LOT in keeping mold at bay, especially, which is something we worry about here in the Pacific NW.

It is very easy to empty, and on average probably removes at least two gallons of air from the room a DAY.

Before ordering I called Breville to inquire about the warranty on refurbished products, one year, same as new. The woman I spoke to did say that it would only be covered when purchased from a authorized dealer such as Amazon. The toaster oven arrived in perfect condition, complete with all parts and everything was properly sealed. If the box didn't say factory refurbished , I never would have been able to tell it wasn't new. Before you use the oven the first time you need to do one cooking cycle to burn off any manufacturing residue. I could smell it a bit (normal as per the directions) meaning the the oven was never used. Can't think of any reason to pay over $100 more for a non refurbished one.I will use part of the money I saved to buy the wood cutting board that fits on the top. P.S. I noticed the broiling pan had a small chip on the bottom. I called Breville and they are sending a replacement at no cost. Nice !!!

I received our oven yesterday from Amazon. The 1 star rating from the other reviewer had me worried so I called Amazon prior to ordering. They assured me that if there would be a problem they would pay the return shipping and refund my money. That was good enough for me to take a chance on saving $100 and I'm glad I did! When the oven arrived it was in like new condition. As a matter of fact everything looked as though it was un-opened. I had to do the initial burn-in and could tell by the burn-off odors that the oven had not been used.

I'm extremely happy with this purchase and would definitely buy again. Thank you Amazon!

The first refurbished oven DID NOT TURN OFF. Terribly dangerous defect for an item that was supposed to be certified as good working order. The oven would beep as if it was off, but the top element stayed on, glowing orange. Because the oven was always on, plugging and unplugging the item was an electrical hazard, with the cord sparking each time. The replacement oven was sent promptly by Amazon. Unfortunately, the oven was filthy and banged up. It looked like it had been used for at least several months. The top was all scratched up, as if someone had been sitting plates or pans on it for some time. The front had a dent. The handle had brown spots, which may have been rust but I didn't want to look too closely. Even the packing materials were dirty, with hair and brown specks all over. In all, it was too gross to even plug in and test the oven. I feel like I have to disinfect my kitchen just from opening up the box. I do not recommend buying this oven refurbished.

This review is from: Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier, FAD504TDD (Kitchen)
I was a little hesitant buying this dehumidifier without any reviews on Amazon, but last year's model was highly-regarded so I figured there wasn't too much of a risk. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Pros:
- Looks great... I know it's a dehumidifier, but it doesn't hurt that it actually isn't hideous
- Really sucks moisture out of the air
- Good energy efficiency
- Multitude of options on how to run (timer on/off, humidity level, continuous operation)
- Auto-restart after power failure

Cons:
- Not the quietest dehumidifier. I've noticed with mine that it tends to start off pretty noisy and level out after about 30 minutes
- No adjustment to the vent airflow is possible, it would be nice if you could direction it up/down/left/right, but this isn't a major issue

Overall impression:
Some reviewers of the last model had difficulty removing the bucket -- mine has posed no problems. I believe that they... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Unit but Terrible Bucket, May 17, 2010
By
Hammer Head (North Wales, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier, FAD504TDD (Kitchen)
I've recently replaced an 8-year old Frigidaire dehumidifier with this new model (FAD504TDB). I had excellent service from my old unit (which was still working but lost some of its punch) so I bought another Frigidaire. Here's my opinion of the new Frigidaire.
1. Packaging & ease of initial start-up was exceptional. It was up & running inside 5 minutes.
2. Noise Level. Not sure why some found the noise levels excessive. I'd say it's about 1/2 the noise level of older model so now I'll have to go down a few basement steps just to hear if it's running or not.
3. Comments after using unit. The unit has done a nice job in lowering my basement humidity level from 70%+ to the low 60%'s within a few days. However, I gotta say I hate the water bucket. It's made so cheaply (feels like a refrigerator vegetable bin). When full, you have to hold it with both hands from the bottom which makes it more difficult to carry up the stairs. The older unit had a much more... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Unit, but has some small problems, July 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier, FAD504TDD (Kitchen)
Original Review, July, 2010:

I bought this dehumidifier to replace a very old, non-working unit in my basement. Overall, it seems like a nicely made unit. I can live with its shortcomings because it does produce a lot of water, and that's what I care about. Also, the fan does produce a nice stream of air that reaches pretty far across my basement, which is good.

The cardboard box it comes in is a little unique - you cut the straps and then lift the box off of the unit, unless you don't read the instructions and lift the heavy unit out of the box, like I did.

To me, the unit seems a little bigger than it looks in the picture, so check the dimensions. As you would expect, it is somewhat heavy, but the handle is sturdy, and the unit rolls around on four casters.

Being in my basement, the noise level is not really important to me, but it is quieter than my old unit for two reasons. One reason is that it uses a squirrel-cage type blower fan,... Read more
